Our Words: Swords and Seeds

Prov 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Gen 1:3-26 “Then God said…”

Rom 10:9-11 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Matt 13:19 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom,”

Eph 6:17-18 “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,”

Rev 1:16 “out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.”

James 3:4-5 “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.”

If I were to tell you that your words are the most important, powerful and influential force that you have, would you believe me? What if I was to go on to say that the words that you have spoken throughout your entire life have actually created the world that you are living in right now; your circumstances, your finances and even your relationships? Could I continue further by saying that the words that groups, societies and even nations are speaking as a collective whole are determining the fruit and future of that particular people? I lay these questions before you and ask that they would become your hunger as you continue reading. Let me first disclaimer this teaching and say that yes I believe that you can name it and claim it but I don’t believe that if you get what you want because you confessed it that it is from God. I see our words as being powerful and creative and if you confess a selfish desire then you will get it and it will not be God’s will for you. Every word that we speak must come from a place of the Spirit’s influence and direction. Only then is it God’s will and the name it and claim it doctrine becomes accurate. As of late, the Holy Spirit has been telling me to speak out the world that I want to live in. I have heard teachings on confession and the power of my words, but only recently has the Holy Spirit been giving me specific direction on using my understanding of the influential power of my words. He has been directing me to speak wisdom over myself in every area of my life and to speak financial abundance over my household. I have been confessing that my wife and I would have the answers to solve political, economic and social issues in the nations that we are called, in order that those nations would see the wisdom of Christ’s kingdom and that entire nations would see the light of Jesus Christ and come running to its rising (Isa 60:1-3). In my previous teaching I mentioned our calling to disciple entire nations; politically, economically and socially, and I have been seeing that what I start speaking now will be the fruit that I eat later. If I want to influence nations by the kingdom of God I must start confessing that influence now.

Each and every word has the influential power to create entire worlds. We as mankind; new creation and old, are made in the likeness of God. One of the first revelations that we see about our God, and therefore about us, is that God spoke and it was. God wanted us to know that when we speak we are releasing a creative force. Sadly because mankind fled from God the Creator we now have the power to destroy with our words. Yet the point is this: that creation was made by a word and therefore is ruled by words. The study of quantum physics has shown this to be true. They have discovered that the material world around us actually responds to the words that we speak and this is because they believe they have found that the entire material world is made up of sound waves. David Hergoz has received great revelation from God about this as well as Ray Hughes and both have great resources on this subject. From a biblical perspective we are to rule and reign over this earth and our lives by our words. Bill Johnson says, “Nothing happens in the kingdom without there first being a declaration.”

Jesus taught us that the kingdom is actually like a seed that is planted and as it takes root it will grow into a covering for the creatures of the land (Mk 4:30-32), and in Matt 13:9 He says that the seed is the word of the Kingdom. Each and every word, God’s kingdom or not, that we hear and speak is a seed that is planted into our minds and hearts. This seed carries with it the power of life or death. The seed of God’s kingdom is released by us speaking by the Spirit, and that seed is planted into the ground of people’s heart. If we choose to that seed can be watered and watched over until it is influencing the ground, vegetation and atmosphere with in our heart. That seed of the kingdom can reproduce in us until the kingdom is the only vegetation within our hearts. But this transformation of a life only can start by a spoken word. The power of a seed is nearly inconceivable. Though it is very tiny it grows roots that can break entire boulders apart. It has the ability to reproduce itself thousands of times over. It looks like a small nothing but then it turns into the life sustaining food that we eat. It grows thousands of times if not millions of times larger than it started out to be. Seeds are powerful, and we must see that every word that we speak is a seed, to ourselves as well as to others. Paul exhorts us to say only those things that will impart life and grace to the hearers (Eph 4:29). In Matt 12:36-37, “But I (Jesus) say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." The word for idle means: to be inactive or not to produce. Jesus is saying that we will give an account for every word that did not produce, for every word that we heard but did not take time to cultivate the ground in our hearts and water the seed and let it grow into the influential life force that it was meant to. There are seeds in us that we have heard, maybe even decades ago, that were meant to produce kingdom likeness in us but for whatever reason we didn’t water it and tend to it. The reason could be that it did not line up with our doctrine, or that it came from someone we did not like, or it came at a wrong time from someone we did like. That seed still has the ability to produce in our life. Science has shown that if you put a continuous flow of water upon a desert or wilderness, seeds that have laid dormant for hundreds of years still can grow and produce life. God never meant for there to be places of barrenness in our lives and more than likely the seeds are there but they are idle and inactive, because no water has been applied to it. The water is none other than the Holy Spirit (Jn 7:38-39), and we must only ask for this water to come and fill us and then be faithful to be continually filled and then we will see places of barrenness turn into a fruitful land. This is God’s promise to you and to me and we must only ask and receive. Isa 51:3 “For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody.”

The other visual representation in scripture that we receive about the power of our words is that they are swords. In the same way that a seed can bring forth a life giving plant or a life choking weed so also our words can be the weapon that we defeat the enemy with or the very blade that cuts down lives; our life and others. Recently, the Lord showed me that our words are a literal spiritual weapon. He showed me Jesus in Revelations 1:16 with a real spiritual sword coming from His mouth and then Paul’s words in 2 Cor 10:4-5 and Eph 4:17 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (not physical) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,” and “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” I see know that we truly have spiritual weapons and our words are said to be the primary weapon that we have. Swords in Paul’s day were not secondary weapons they were the main instruments that the individual soldier worked with. Today it might say “and the M9 of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” The eternal truth behind it is that what we speak will either destroy the enemy or destroy us. If we are speaking out our fear of the enemy and not confessing the power of God over our lives then the enemy is not being defeated and our lives will show what we are saying and it will destroy us. Yet, if those same words are used to speak out the truth of God and overcome the lie of the enemy our lives will see the works of the devil destroyed and the blessing of God released.

Jeremiah found this out early in his ministry. God calls him as a prophet to the nations and then says in Jer 1:9-10, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant." God said that Jeremiah’s words were to destroy the kingdoms of man (which were in agreement with Satan) and then to plant and build the kingdom of God in the very place where he had just destroyed. Jeremiah had a sword and a seed and we also carry with us this calling to tear down and to plant. Our tearing down words must not be against flesh and blood but against the demonic realm of principalities and powers (Eph 6:12), and our planning words must always be for the restoration of the nations and for the kingdom of God to rules over the hearts of man.

I pray that you now see the extensive power and influence of our words, which we are to declare over lives, societies, economics and politics. We are to speak the word of the kingdom and see it grow and produce life to man and bring glory to God. God has giving you a tool that far surpasses your natural abilities and efforts and it is your words. Speak out the world that God has prepared for you, He has told us to do so, and then we will see it come to pass. If it is God’s will then it is good.
